About Us

The Yankton Karate Club is a member of the Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan Organization that was founded in 1972 in Lincoln, Nebraska by John Roseberry - Shihan.  The Yankton Karate Club was started in 1997 by Sensei Charlie Barron and has been located in the large classroom at the First Fitness health club from the beginning. We aren't a very large dojo in terms of square footage or membership, but pack a lot of education and comradery within our walls. Besides learning the physical techniques of karate and kobudo, students learn such mental attitudes as patience, self-assurance, respect, perseverance, and self-discipline. Students discover that they are encouraged to grow spiritually as well as physically. Beginning students are treated kindly and with respect and soon realize that they have many teachers as all of the students ahead of them are responsible for their instruction and well-being.  In return, students are expected to practice diligently and to be respectful to other students and teachers.  Students are never asked to do anything beyond their capability but are encouraged to put forth their best effort. “Do Your Best!” and “The Answers Are On The Floor!”  are familiar phrases heard at the Yankton Karate Club.  All students of Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan dojos enjoy an atmosphere conducive to good training and personal growth.

The Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan organization has indoctrinated six articles that summarize the philosophy of the Yankton Karate Club:

 We, Karate ka:

* Respect good manners
* Practice a sense of harmony
* Learn to persevere
* Give our minds to application
* Make every effort to agree upon heart and technique.
* As students, and later as teachers, will follow the dojo rules.
